Haiti
On January 12th, Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7.0 earthquake. roughly equivalent to or a little stronger than the 1989 San Francisco (Loma Prieta) earthquake and the 1994 Los Angeles (Northridge) earthquake. Unfortunately, many of those in Haiti do not live in buildings built to withstand this type of event and as a result, there has been widespread building collapses.
Our prayers are with those affected this event as well as their families and loved ones. While we know that this is a difficult economic time in our country, we must also realize that this country has been blessed compared to the rest of the world. As Luke 12:48 suggests, “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded.” (NIV). This is a key opportunity for each of us to demonstrate these values by voluntarily contributing to the charity of our choice to help these families.
