Education

As a father to 6 children, Jim supports a strong education system; but Jim also knows that children learn best when their parents are involved. Jim also recognizes that parents are more likely to be involved when they are given more authority to set school policies. Jim further recognizes that a strong educational system is an “apple pie” issue that all Americans support and has trust in parents and the state and local governments to do the right thing if given the chance. Finally, Jim respects the limits that the Constitution places upon the federal government and is aware that the quality of the school systems started to deteriorate when the federal government started dictating educational policies.
If elected, Jim will work to scale back the federal involvement in education, thereby allowing state and local governments greater flexibility in solving problems. However, Jim does not claim to be an expert in this area. While in office, he will work with local students, parents, teachers, and school officials to determine the appropriate changes to make to these federal policies while also ensuring that the rights of all students are protected.
